Concentration fluctuations in swollen gels are controlled by a collective diffusion coefficient D c. Two experimental observations are described in which a swollen gel is mechanically deformed from its equilibrium configuration. In the first, the anisotropy of Dc in a uniaxially deswollen polyacrylamide-water gel is investigated using dynamic light scattering. No anisotropy is detected. In the second, Dc is measured by the neutron spin echo technique in a stretched poly (dimethylsiloxane) gel swollen in toluene. The measured anisotropy is small and at the limit of the experimental error
