Living polytetrahydrofuran was terminated with pyridinium or isoquinolinium N-oxide to yield polymers with the corresponding end groups. Direct and sensitized irradiation of these photoacfive polytetrahydrofurans produced alkoxyl radicals at both chain ends capable of initiating the radical polymerization of methyl methacrylate.
